FormGlut can take card payments through Stripe, for free. Charge a fixed price, an amount the visitor types (donations, custom amounts), or a total worked out by a Calculation field.

1. Add your Stripe keys

  1. In Stripe, go to Developers › API keys.
  2. In WordPress, go to FormGlut › Global Settings › Payments › Stripe.
  3. Set Stripe mode to Test while you set things up. No real money moves in test mode.
  4. Paste the Test publishable key and Test secret key.
  5. Choose the Stripe currency (USD by default).
  6. Later, add the Live publishable key and Live secret key and switch the mode to Live to take real payments.
  7. Click Save settings.

2. Add payment fields to the form

Payment Item

Add a Payment Item field for each product or fee. In its options, set Price:

  • Fixed price: enter the amount.
  • Visitor enters the amount (donation, custom amount): the visitor types the amount. Set a Minimum amount if you need one.

Amounts are in the currency set in Global Settings.

Card Payment

Add one Card Payment field. This is where visitors enter their card. In its options:

OptionWhat it does
Amount to chargeTotal of the Payment Item fields, or Result of a Calculation field.
Calculation field IDWhen charging a calculation, the ID copied from the Calculation field’s ID chip.
Show the total above the cardShows the amount before the card box.
Description in StripeWhat you see in your Stripe Dashboard, e.g. {form_name} – {field:ID}. Smart tags allowed.

3. Test a payment

  1. Keep Stripe in Test mode.
  2. Open the form and pay with a Stripe test card, such as 4242 4242 4242 4242, any future date and any CVC.
  3. Open the entry in FormGlut › Entries. The Payment box shows the amount, the status and test mode.

When everything works, switch to Live mode.

How it works

  • Card details go directly from the visitor’s browser to Stripe. They never touch your server.
  • FormGlut creates the payment with the amount and currency, then checks with Stripe that it succeeded before saving the entry.
  • Totals are checked again on the server, so visitors cannot change the price.
  • Card payments only: there are no redirect payment methods in the free plugin.

FormGlut Pro adds subscriptions, coupons, Apple Pay / Google Pay and other Stripe methods, refunds, receipts, tax, shipping, stock, and more gateways: PayPal, Square, Mollie, Razorpay, Paystack, Authorize.net and Mercado Pago.
