This guide takes you from an empty site to a working contact form in a few minutes.

1. Start a new form

  1. Go to FormGlut › All Forms.
  2. In the Create A New Form box, choose one of:
    • New Blank Form: an empty form you build from scratch.
    • Choose a Template: a ready-made form you can change. See Form Templates.
    • Migrate from another plugin: copy forms from another form plugin.

You can also go straight to FormGlut › Add New.

2. Name the form

Type a name in the title box at the top of the editor, for example Contact us. Only you see the name, unless you turn on Show form title in the form’s settings.

3. Add fields

The left panel has three tabs: Add Fields, Field Options and Style Options.

  1. On the Add Fields tab, drag a field (for example Name, Email Address and Text Area) onto the form, or click it to add it at the end.
  2. Click a field on the form to open its Field Options: label, placeholder, required, help text and more.
  3. Use the round + button under a field to add the next field right after it.

4. Save

Click Save Form at the top right. The button shows Save Form * while you have unsaved changes.

5. Check the settings

Click Settings in the editor header. The most useful settings for a first form are:

  • Confirmation: the message visitors see after submitting, or a page to send them to.
  • Notifications: who receives the email for each submission.

Click Save settings when you are done. See Confirmation Messages and Redirects and Email Notifications.

6. Preview and publish

  1. Click Preview in the editor to see the form as visitors will.
  2. Click Shortcode to copy the form’s shortcode, for example [formglut id="3"].
  3. Paste the shortcode into any page or post, or use the FormGlut block. See Add a Form to Your Site.

7. Make it active

A form only shows on your site when its status is Active. On All Forms, use the switch in the form’s row to set it to Active. The default status for new forms is set in Global Settings › General › Default form status.

8. Test it

Open the page, fill in the form and submit it. The submission appears under FormGlut › Entries, and the notification email goes to the address you set.

Emails not arriving? Go to Data & Logs › Email log, turn the log on and use Send a test email. If the test fails, your site cannot send email. Install an SMTP plugin to fix this.
